Later this week I intend to post a report on the Christmas SYW clash between the Prussians and Russians. But, until then, here are a few photos of another game I played over New Year holiday. They are pics of my son's first miniatures game - he's seven, and his name is Alexander Frederick (I shit you not). Now, he wants to play every Sunday morning - so who suckered who?

Feed the frenzy and game with him every week. You have a wargame fathers dream come true.
Nice work! Hope the interest continues:)
Best regards michael
That is fantastic.
I think my son was also seven when I started playing miniature games with him. Wow, did his math ever improve overnight! Well, at least the quick adding and subtracting of single digit whole numbers - but it was a start - and I never cease to be amazed how quickly he can add and subtract numbers now (he just turned ten today).
Maths is not his problem - he inherited his mum's brains. He is currently working out square roots (of numbers like 5) in his head and doing the simple maths for circles using pi.
This morning, on the way to school, he was telling me about Philip of Macedon becoming head of the League of Corinth following a battle (he knew the name) somewhere in Greece (I think) and then, following his assassination, about how Alexander had to put a Theban revolt down before turning his attention east - it was all to do with how old Alexander must have been when he conquered Persia and how long his 'empire' lasted. It is not something we have previously discussed, or something I've looked up for over 10 years, so I'm not sure if he was right about everything - I have some bedtime reading to do tonight.
Lovely, hope my son will get to play with me someday. Too soon by now.
With a name like that, he'll be kicking you out of Silesia in no time :-)
You could have at least put the heating on for him!
It looks like you are going to have a formidable opponent for the rest of your wargaming career!
Do you call him Al Fred for short?
A dream come true
Awesome to see your son playing as well. My boy is also seven, and actually thinks its normal for Dad to have a room full of painted minis downstairs. He is by far my favorite opponent. Enjoy it while it lasts!
